Now one of Jefferson’s oldest, most stately homes, Cavalier House originally opened as a tavern, greeting weary travelers as they made their way along the Texas trails. Our mission is to provide the same genuine warmth and hospitality that guests enjoyed over 150 years ago. By surrounding our visitors with beautiful antiques, a huge collection of civil war books and videos, inviting parlor areas, tasty delicacies, and lovely gardens, we hope to create the type of hospitality that will make our guests want to come back time and again. A preservationist once remarked on the heritage of these landmarks: “We are not the owners of these wonderful old homes … we are only the custodians. ”We hope to serve also as curators, offering today’s traveler a slice of the history and charm that so enraptures and intrigues us as stewards of Cavalier House. Please, come and share our home with us.
